Itinerario

Our journey begins while the city of Cusco still sleeps under a blanket of stars. Between 04:00 a.m. and 04:30 a.m., our transport will pick you up from your hotel. The fresh early morning air accompanies us as we leave the city to enter the Anta Valley.

After approximately two hours of travel along roads that wind between agricultural valleys and traditional villages, we will arrive at Mollepata. This picturesque town is the meeting point for adventurers heading to both Humantay and the Salkantay Trek. Here, a revitalizing buffet breakfast awaits us. Imagine the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, local breads, and seasonal fruits preparing you for the physical effort to come.

After breakfast, we will continue our journey for an additional hour until we reach Soraypampa (3,900 m a. s. l.). As you step off the transport, the view will take your breath away before you even begin to walk. In front of you rise the imposing Salkantay and Humantay glaciers, whose white peaks contrast with the deep blue sky of the highlands.

In Soraypampa, we will have a brief moment to organize our gear, perform final stretches, and listen to the final recommendations of our expert guide. If you feel the altitude is a greater challenge than expected, this is the place where you can choose to rent a horse (optional service managed by local community members) to facilitate your ascent.

The hike to the lake is a personal achievement. The trail is approximately 2.5 kilometers uphill.

  • At a regular pace: 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • At a steady, quiet pace: Up to 2 hours.

As we ascend, the landscape changes. The vegetation becomes sparser, typical of the puna zone, but the beauty intensifies. You will see small streams flowing down from the glacier and, if you are lucky, the majestic flight of the Andean condor. The difficulty is moderate due to the incline and altitude, but every step is worth it.

Around 10:30 a.m., we will crown the top of the moraine and, suddenly, Humantay Lake will appear before your eyes. The color of the water is indescribable, ranging from emerald green to turquoise blue depending on the sunlight.

Our guide will share the geological history of this place with you, as well as its spiritual importance. For the inhabitants of the Andes, the mountains are Apus (protective spirits). Apu Humantay is considered a guardian of life and water. We will have nearly 1 hour and 30 minutes to explore, meditate, make small offerings of gratitude (Apachetas), and, of course, capture the best photographs.

The descent to Soraypampa is much simpler and takes approximately 1 hour. With your heart full of the mountain’s energy, we will board our transport back to Mollepata.

At approximately 02:30 p.m., we will enjoy our buffet lunch. There is nothing like a hot meal after a mountain hike. You can taste typical regional dishes, vegetarian options, and proteins that will help you recover your energy.

Finally, we will begin the return trip to Cusco. It is the perfect time to rest in the transport or share photos with your new travel friends. We will arrive near the Plaza de Armas around 05:30 p.m., with the satisfaction of having conquered one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Recomendaciones

For your experience to be perfect, we suggest bringing:

  • Layered clothing: The weather in Cusco changes quickly. Bring a breathable t-shirt, a fleece, and a waterproof or windbreaker jacket.
  • Trekking footwear: If they have good grip and protect the ankle, even better.
  • Sun protection: At 4,200 meters, UV radiation is very high. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are mandatory.
  • Acclimatization: We recommend being in Cusco at least 2 days before this tour to avoid altitude sickness (soroche).
  • Snacks and Water: Although we include meals, bringing nuts, chocolates, or a hydrating drink will give you an extra energy boost.

Preguntas Frecuentes
