Your adventure on the Eco Amazonia 2-Day Tour (adapted to Tambopata) begins with a pickup at the Puerto Maldonado airport or bus station. Our team will welcome you, and we will head out on an approximately 2-hour transfer to the banks of the Tambopata River. There, we will board a motorboat that will take us to Hacienda Tambopata, our welcoming lodge. During the boat ride, keep your binoculars ready to spot riverside birds and mammals along the banks.
After being welcomed with an Amazonian fruit nectar, we will enjoy a traditional lunch featuring local ingredients. In the afternoon, we will go on a guided jungle hike. Our specialized guides will teach you about medicinal flora, timber trees, and the interaction between ecosystems. You will be able to spot fascinating amphibians, reptiles, and insects before returning to the lodge for a typical dinner accompanied by the immersive sounds of the Amazon rainforest.
The second day of the Macaw Clay Lick Tour is the climax of the experience. We will wake up at 4:30 am to navigate for an hour and a half toward the Chuncho Clay Lick. Upon arrival, you will witness hundreds of vibrantly colored macaws consuming clay from the riverbank, a unique behavior used to eliminate toxins from their diet. It is the perfect moment to capture stunning photographs and enjoy the majesty of the Amazon’s birdlife.
After this spectacle, we will return to the lodge for a nutritious breakfast. We will visit the lodge’s botanical garden to learn more about medicinal plants and the sustainable use of natural resources. Finally, we will begin the return journey to Puerto Maldonado, ensuring you arrive in time for your flight or bus to Cusco or Lima, concluding your Macaw Clay Lick Tour with unforgettable memories.
