Chinchero is a town on the high plateau of the Sacred Valley, at about 3,760 m. It combines an early 17th-century colonial church built on the Inca palace of Túpac Inca Yupanqui, Inca terraces running down the hillside and a strong weaving tradition.
What to see
- The Church of Nuestra Señora de Monserrat, with murals covering its ceilings and walls.
- The Inca walls and terraces of the archaeological complex.
- The weaving centers, where weavers show how they wash wool with roots and color it with natural dyes.
- The Sunday market, where communities still barter.
How to get there
It’s about 30 km from Cusco on the road to Urubamba (about 40 minutes). It’s the last stop on many Sacred Valley tours and lies on the way to Maras and Moray.

The archaeological complex is included in the Cusco Tourist Ticket (Boleto Turístico del Cusco).
